SERIES PRODUCER - 10 x 45’
Ob-doc series showing the inner workings of The X Factor machine. Cameras would roll backstage during the live Saturday night show and capture the elation and bitter disappointment of the contestants. For the next three days, we’d capture the turbulent preparations for the next live show, with storylines about each performance feeding into the live show VTs. The revealing episode would be broadcast four days later on Wednesday nights.
Having worked on Pop Idol in 2001, returning to the mass-hysteria of the machine with some detachment was very interesting. This time, instead of being personally imbedded with the contestants, I was able to make an observed series with real moments of introspection about the nature of fame. Stories we created overnight in the edit would be headline news the next day.
Taking edit notes from Simon Cowell was quite a thing.
